About Esther

Esther joined MAD’s program on August 2017.  She is in the 11th grade at the International School of Moshi (ISM) for diploma studies (International Baccalaureate).  Before joining MAD’s program, she was studying at a local private school named, St. Mary’s Mazinde Juu Secondary School. Esther graduated from this school at the end of 2016 with great grades! Her dream was to join an International School for science studies as she wants to be an Engineer. Given that international schools in Tanzania are much more expensive than local private schools, Esther has parents but their combined wages are less than $300 a month. Her father repairs tractors and her mother is a small scale farmer.

Additionally, her father being the oldest son in a family of twelve has to take care of the clan in terms of providing basic needs. Also, Esther has five siblings and they all lived as an extended family. In order to make her dream happen, Esther applied for scholarships to fund her studies and was lucky to be funded by both MAD and ISM. Esther loves reading, drawing, being happy and assisting others.
