Meet the Students MAD Helps, Learn about the Culture, Work on an Educational Project & Go on Safari!

MAD’s CSR Programs offer the opportunity for teams from corporations, clubs, or universities to make a tremendous impact within the Kilimanjaro Region of Tanzania while working on team building together. On this trip participants will work together with locals on projects focused on education.

2018 dates:  

Spring: April 3rd (arrive) – April 10th (depart) or extend until the 12th and depart for safari on the 10th at 830am.

Summer: June 3rd (arrive) – June 10th (depart) or extend until the 12th and depart for safari on the 10th at 830am.

Winter: Nov 29th (arrive) – Dec 6th (depart) or extend until the 8th and depart for safari on the 6th at 830am.

Brief Overview of Tentative Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) between 6pm – 9 pm; Our staff will greet you at the airport and transfer you to our guest house in Moshi (one hour drive).
Day 2: Orientation, Swahili course, learn about the local food and icebreakers with children.
Day 3: Trip to local Chagga Caves to learn about the local Chagga culture then village visit to one of our student’s home villages. 
Day 4: Workshops (English, and for those who are math minded, Math and Science) with children (3 to 4 hours) to help them improve in these subjects. Our focus will be creating ways for these subjects to come alive. It may be creating a business plan, learning how to create an App (where they can use their math and English) or writing essays on important global topics. In the evening you will have a call or meeting with our director where you will give her an update on how your time has been going and inform her if any changes need to be made. 
Days 5-7: More workshops and the possibility to help with a project at the school such as (library, technology center or playground); play sports with children; career presentations and our traditional African sendoff!
Days 8-10: Optional 3 day safari with accommodation at upscale hotels. Price is $995 US for 2018 (based on a minimum of 6 people. This price is not included in your volunteer program fee).*

*Contact Adventures Within Reach to let them know if you would like to go on safari with MAD. Safari price includes all meals, transport, lodging, guide, driver and park entrance fees. Cost is based on a minimum of six people.

Cost of Program:
US $2,000/person (minimum of 5 people needed, maximum of 10). Breakdown on where money goes: $1,500 for education (development of the school; more classrooms and books and helping paying school tuitions);
$500 covers your accommodation, meals, guide, driver, transportation, electricity, water, cook and security guards.

5 Easy Steps to Participate
1.Fill out the MAD Application Form, click on “MAD Salesforce Trip” and agree to the Terms and Conditions and  pay your deposit of $250 (refundable within 24 hours after payment is made) due three months prior to departure
2. Send us a copy of your travel insurance policy (strongly encouraged).
3. Pay the remaining balance of your program $1,750  2 months prior to your departure

5. Buy our MAD Kilimanjaro Kitchen Book which has all the profiles of our students so you can start to get to know them and recipes to follow during your cultural days learning about the local food and traditions. 

Deposit
Secure your spot. As soon as we receive your registration and deposit we can confirm your placement.
Pay Your Deposit of $250 Now (refundable within 24 hours of payment). Due three months prior to departure. *If at anytime you need to change your dates to another program you can do so as long as it’s within a year and you pay $150 to transfer dates.

Remaining Balance
Due two  months prior to your departure date payable through matching funds, fundraising or directly through JustGive.

Flights
Flights are normally $1,500 to $2,000 from the USA depending on which airport you use. You must arrive between 6 pm – 9 pm to meet up with your group. Dates and fundraising minimums are subject to change. Please confirm with us before you purchase your flight.  The doctor’s letter and travel insurance information need to be scanned and emailed to MAD at least one month before departure.

Insurance
To ensure that your time with MAD is enjoyable and free from worries, MAD has made travel insurance compulsory for all programs and events. Check with your company to see if they provide insurance for you (most companies do if you are using VTO). If not, insurance must be purchased on your own. Without limitation, MAD is not responsible for any injury, damage, loss of property or delays during your stay.
